Add to the list

I think the new Vince Flynn novel, American Assassin, would be a good addition to our list of books to read. Flynn has written several books about Mitch Rapp, a government operative who often works "off the books". In each book the story action revolves around a controversial issue, such as torture and wiretapping, and the reasoning behind different viewpoints. American Assassin is in essence a prequel to the series wherein we learn how and why Rapp became a spy and sometime assassin for the U. S. government. Judging from the other Vince Flynn novels, this should be worth our time and attention.

---appears as though he (Flynn) has some government agencies scratching their heads and wondering if he has infiltrated top secret information. I find that interesting. Can you relate that to anything in his books? I also see that Flynn has made several guest appearances on the Glenn Beck show. Don't know what that 'means'...does anything 'wacko' come through in his writings?

How to describe this... Flynn usually takes the side of doing whatever is necessary to get the answers. Wiretapping, waterboarding, things like that. Although I generally disagree with him, he does present rational, realistic and valid arguemnts, keeping in mind his books are supposed to be fiction. In one,a bomb went off near a popular restaurant in Washington, killing senators, ambassadors, etc. which wouldn't have happened if Mitch Rapp had been allowed to finish "interrogating" a prisoner. Maybe we should read and discuss that one instead of the new one??? Is it okay to beat someone up if it will save hundreds(or more)lives?

I have downloaded a sample of American Assassin but haven't read it yet. Isn't getting too good of reviews. Is there one of his earlier books you would suggest?
